Commercial Music Theatre:


Currently Playing - Melbourne

Disney Theatricals has confirmed that Aladdin opened at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre in August 2016.

Starring newcomer Ainsley Melham making his mainstage debut in the titular role and British actress Hiba Elchikhe replaced Arielle Jacobs as Jasmine in December 2016.

The production will move to Brisbane and Perth in 2018.

The Book of Mormon

Currently Playing - Melbourne then Sydney from February 2018

The Book of Mormon opened at the Princess Theatre Melbourne on January 2017.

The brain child of South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker with Robert Lopez and has played to sold out audiences on Broadway since opening in 2011.

Beautiful: The Carole King Musical

Currently Playing - Sydney

Beautiful: The Carole King Musical opened at the Lyric Theatre at The Star, Sydney on 23 September 2017.

Starring Esther Hannaford, Josh Piterman, Amy Lehpamer and Matt Verevis.

There have been no further cities confirmed as yet, but we believe it will tour in 2018.

Mamma Mia!

Currently Playing - Brisbane (then Sydney, Melbourne Adelaide & Perth)

The six city tour commenced in November 2017 at the Canberra Theatre Centre.

The production then moved to the Lyric Theatre, QPAC in Brisbane before playing the other major tour cities on the live performance circuit in 2018, including Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

The Wizard of Oz

Currently playing - Sydney

The Wizard of Oz will be coming to Australia in 2017. Opening in Brisbane in November the production will continued to Sydney in December and Melbourne and Adelaide in 2018.

Anthony Warlow will lead the cast as The Wizard and Professor Marvel joined by WICKED witches Lucy Durack and Jemma Rix.

Muriel's Wedding - The Musical

Currently playing - Sydney

Sydney Theatre Company and Global Creatures have come together for one of the more exciting announcements we’ve heard in a while: a brand new Australian musical based on a beloved Aussie film. The country’s premier theatre company is staging the world premiere of Muriel’s Wedding the Musical in November 2017.

Directed by Simon Phillips with music and lyrics by Kate Miller-Heidke and Keir Nuttall (and ABBA!).

Dream Lover

Currently Playing - Melbourne

Melbourne is welcoming back its beloved “Summer Musical” this year with David Campbell’s star turn, Dream Lover, at Arts Centre Melbourne.

After a world premiere season at Sydney’s Lyric Theatre in September last year, Producer John Frost has teamed up with Arts Centre Melbourne to bring Dream Lover – The Bobby Darin Musical to Melbourne, with an opening scheduled for December 2017 in the State Theatre.

The Rocky Horror Show

Currently Playing Brisbane - Before touring to Perth and Melbourne in 2018

The Rocky Horror Show returned in 2018 and will tour Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth and Melbourne.

Starring Adam Rennie as Frank n Furter for Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth. Lead casting for Melbourne not confirmed.

Also starring Amanda Harrison, Rob Mallett, Michelle Smitheram, Brendan Irving and Nadia Komazec.

Priscilla The Musical

Commencing January 2018 - Melbourne (then Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane)

10 years after Priscilla Queen of the Desert had its world premiere at the Sydney Lyric theatre, producer Michael Cassel announced today that the musical will return to Australia in 2018 to celebrate the 10th anniversary and its international success.

Jersey Boys

Commencing September 2018 - Sydney

After a critically and commercially acclaimed season in Melbourne which opened in July 2009, Jersey Boys played Sydney’s Theatre Royal for 15 months before touring to Brisbane, Adelaide and Auckland and returning to Melbourne.

Commencing September 2018 - Sydney Opera House

A co-production of GFO and Opera Australia Evita will open at the Sydney Opera House in September 2018.

Tina Arena has been confirmed to play Eva Peron with the remainder of the cast yet to be announced.

Independent Music Theatre:

A Little Night Music

February / March 2018, Melbourne

With an impressive cast including Nadine Garner, John O’May, Carina Waye, Nelson Gardner, Eddie Muliaumaseali’i, Johanna Allen and Jackie Rees as Madame Armfeldt, WATCH THIS’ production of A Little Night Music is poised to play in three Victorian theatres in February/ March 2018.

Rumoured Productions


Perhaps its just that everyone WANTS it to come, but persistent rumours of an Australian production of Newsies continue to circulate. During his stint in Australia for South Pacific in 2012, Tony Award winning choreographer Christopher Gattelli joked that he would love to bring the production to Australia – so we’ve got that going for us at least! Now to find a theatre…
